A little bit of history

Originally a small family project started by a mother-daughter duo, Wonderkin’s smart diapers’ development began 2 years ago. With Georgina Tam’s 20+ years of experience in the diaper and hygienic absorbent manufacturing industry, and her daughter Fiona Li’s fresh, creative outlook, their small idea has now become the basis for one of Hong Kong’s most sought after startups.

However, Georgina and Fiona’s ambitions did not stop here. Following the idea for Wondermom, they adopted similar technology to develop incontinence aids for the elderly, launching Nice Care Smart in 2019.

Having successfully been selected for the Hong Kong Cyberport Incubation Programme in 2019, Fiona set up company operations in Cyberport’s office and was motivated to upscale Wonderkin in order to provide premium products to the masses at a reasonable price. As of 2020, Wonderkin has been able to bring engineering inhouse and is currently working on developing Wondermom and Wonderfolks for Families’ App before its launch expected later this year.

Since its inception, Wonderkin has been recognized by several local and international media organisations, including Seedstars, Jumpstart, Hong Kong Economic Times and iMoney, as one of the startups with the highest growth potential.

What comes in the set, and how does it work?

The elderly product, Nice Care Smart, consists of smart diapers, a sensor, adult incontinence aids, and a monitoring system, aiming to provide quality care to elderly members of society and significantly easing the caregiving process via the App which provides real-time alerts for diaper wetness, inactivity, and falls. Nice Care Smart’s monitoring system feature has been designed to allow it to be implemented in long-term residential nursing homes.

Wonderkin has applied this solution to ease caregiving for caregivers and family members as well. The Wonderfolks for Families product and app are expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The baby product, Wondermom consists of a set of smart diapers, a Kini Sensor, and a Transmission Hub. There are two carbon sensing lines that run throughout our smart diaper’s surface, connecting to the attachable Kini Sensor. The Sensor relays information including the baby’s posture, temperature, activity, and diaper wetness directly to the App via Bluetooth. In the event that the carer is away, this information can be sent via WiFi by connecting to our Transmission Hub.

Where do we go from here?

Wonderkin’s goal is to bring wonder to families with our smart and innovative solutions, aiming to make caregiving easier for babies and the elderly. With the upcoming official release of our product and improvements in the fourth quarter of 2020, Wonderkin’s future is bright.
